Charger
Diameter: 14 ½ inches (36.83 cm)
A rare charger by American artist Maurice Heaton in the Mid-Century taste, depicting a pair of wild horses on a transparent ground with an ombré edge in rich earth tones.
A central figure of the American Studio Glass movement, Heaton is known for his pioneering method of decoration; using a sieve, he would apply powdered enamel through templates to a flat glass surface to form a design, after which he would apply an adhesive spray to fix the design in place. The piece would then be placed into an iron mold before being placed into the kiln, thus fusing the enameled design to the surface of the glass and forming the finished shape (in this case, a concave charger).
