Egyptian Revival Armchair
35” high x 22” wide x 25” depth
This Egyptian Revival armchair in carved mahogany, was formerly at the Bushloe House in Leicestershire, 1880. The seat back takes the form of a stylized female figure, likely representing the Egyptian goddess Isis; her headdress and necklace feature fine inlaid geometric patterning in bone, abalone and wood. Her outstretched winged arms, with carved stylized feathers, form the arms of the chair.
This example was included as part of the set decoration in the film “Meet Me in St. Louis”(1944), starring Judy Garland.
