American, circa 1902-04
Height: 26 inches
Diameter: 20 inches

An icon of American Design, the Dragonfly was one of the first leaded glass Tiffany Lamps designed by Clara Driscoll; an early version of the shade was exhibited in 1899 at the Grafton Galleries in London to great acclaim.

The Dragonfly quickly became one of the most popular lamps produced by Tiffany Studios in the early 20th century and remains a favorite of modern Tiffany collectors.

This example of the 20-inch diameter shade depicts bright blue dragonflies with red eyes and variegated blue-purple wings against a background of vivid "rippled" Tiffany glass ranging from orange near the lower edge, through yellow and green, transitioning to blue near the top of the shade. The wings of the dragonflies feature pierced metal filigree representing the membranous wings of the insect. The upper register of the shade is interspersed with pressed Tiffany glass "gems" in shades of green and golden yellow.

This vibrant shade is paired with an original bronze Tiffany lamp base in rich brown patina.

Both the shade and base of this authentic Tiffany lamp are signed.
