While this design is commonly referred to as the “Spider” Lamp, it is listed as the “Heavy Ribs" Shade in both a sales brochure on Tiffany Lamps distributed by Tiffany Studios around 1910 as well as an internal price list dated to 1910.

Though the geometric background seems to take inspiration from a web, the shade only features six thick bronze “ribs” - two less than the eight legs typical of arachnids.

This example of the shade comprises richly mottled opalescent glass in a creamy golden-amber coloration. The gold patina on leading on the shade and the Inverted Mushroom base harmonizes with the glass selection; this rare finish was an upgrade available for an additional 25% on top of the purchase price of any Tiffany Lamp.

Both the shade and base of this original Tiffany Lamp are signed.
