NEW YORK — The 2nd annual METRO Show returns to the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea January 24-27, 2013 with an Opening Night Preview Wednesday, January 23. 40 art galleries and dealers from the U.S. and abroad present an innovative mix of cultures, time periods and movements.
Fair Director Caroline Kerrigan Lerch commented, “We’re looking with anticipation to the next iteration of The METRO Show. Last January’s inaugural fair clearly demonstrated that combining interesting but diverse material – all of exceptionally high quality – resulted in a dynamic, intriguing fair considered a rising star in the NYC art market!”
Exhibiting for the first time in 2013 will be Giampietro Gallery, with works by emerging artists such as recent discovery Larry Lewis who created over 100 collage books in addition to exceptional singular works. His vision spanned pop culture, drawing influence from early Hollywood and industrialization. Giampietro will also have fine examples of folk art from the 19th century through the present.
Among the returning galleries will be Ricco/Maresca Gallery, Clifford A. Wallach, Jeff Bridgman, Hill Gallery, William Siegal Galleries, Dolan/Maxwell Gallery, Carl Hammer Gallery, Gemini Antiques, Cavin-Morris Gallery, Garthoeffner Gallery, Sam Herrup Antiques, Lillian Nassau and Just Folk.
The fair’s educational series, METRO Dialogues, will offer lectures by collectors, artists and curators. A panel discussion concerning the intersection of Self-Taught/Art Brut and Contemporary Art will feature Barbara Safarova of ABCD (art brut connaissance & diffusion) and Professor of aesthetics at College International de Philosophie (Paris); Randall Morris, Cavin- Morris Gallery (New York) and Christian Berst, Galerie Christian Berst (Paris), among others. In addition, contemporary artists, the city’s most renowned interior designers, and Cara Zimmerman, Executive Director of the Foundation for Self Taught Artists (Philadelphia) will lead walking tours of the fair.
A festive evening for Whitney Museum members has been planned for Saturday evening, January 26.
